Postdoctoral Position

within the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer Group

The Max-Planck-Institute for Physics is engaged in fundamental research in particle and astroparticle physics from both experimental and theoretical perspectives. One main research activity is the participation in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.

We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in experimental particle physics within our ATLAS Muon Spectrometer Group. The group has contributed to the design and construction of the ATLAS muon spectrometer and is strongly involved in upgrades of the ATLAS muon detector in the current LHC shutdown and for High-Luminosity LHC. We are developing the new front-end electronics for the ATLAS muon drift-tube (MDT) chambers and are preparing for the construction of new small-diameter MDT and thin-gap RPC chambers for HL-LHC. Our data analysis program concentrates on the measurements of the Higgs boson properties  and the search for new physics beyond the Standard Model. The successful candidate is expected to play a leading role in the muon detector and electronics development and in the coordination of the construction.  There will also be the possibility to participate in ATLAS data analysis. A PhD in particle physics and experience with the operation of particle detectors is required.

Salary and benefits are according to the German public service pay scale (TVöD Bund). The contract is initially limited to two years and can be extended in accordance with German law.
