Half-day excursions on Thursday 19-Apr-2007
The workshop participants and the accompanying persons have the opportunity
to choose one of the three excursions described below. For all of them the
bus transportation will be arranged. The buses leave from the Holiday Inn
at 14:00. All excursions have an expected duration of approximately 4 hours.
I. Munich Highlights
Price per person 29 €
This tour includes a visit to two of Munich's major historical and
cultural sites:
The Residenz (German word for residence)
is the former royal residence of the Bavarian Dukes, Electors and Kings.
It is one of the finest room decoration museums in Europe. The complex
of buildings contains ten courtyards and 130 rooms. The three main parts are
the Königsbau (near the Max-Joseph-Platz), the Alte Residenz (towards the
Residenzstraße) and the Festsaalbau (towards the Hofgarten). A wing of the
Festsaalbau contains the Cuvilliés Theatre, a partial reconstruction of the
original theater built between 1751 and 1755, which was destroyed in 1944.
The tour includes a visit of the Alte Residenz.

The Lenbachhaus is one of Munich's many galleries. It is most famous
for the large collection of paintings of Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider),
a group of expressionist artists established in Munich in 1911 which included
the painters Wassily Kandinsky, Gabriele Münter, Franz Marc, August Macke,
Marianne von Werefkin, Paul Klee and others.
The gallery also shows masterpieces of several Munich painters of the 18th
and 19th century and gives a very profound view of international contemporary art.

II. Royal Castle of Linderhof and "The Abby of Ettal"
Price per person 41 €
Two of the most precious jewels of Bavaria can be seen during this excursion:
The dream castle Linderhof built by King Ludwig II in French rococo style
with its fantastic grotto and the moorish pavillion is located in the southwest
of Bavaria. It is the smallest of the three castles built by the King but the only
one of which he lived to see completion.

III. Soccer & Brewery Tour
Price per person 39 €
According to a survey more than 45 % of all our guests in Munich know the
slogan "Weltstadt mit Herz", which was created in our Olympic year 1972 -
but more than 85 % of all visitors have "beer" and "Oktoberfest" in mind
when they come to Munich.
Our beer tour tells you a lot about hops and malt, why the Bavarian national
drink became so popular, about purity laws, beer revolution and beer
battles. The beer tour offers you funny and interesting information about
Munich's way of life and includes a visit to a small brewery (with beer
tasting)
In additional to the "Beer Tour", participants in this tour will visit the
most modern soccer stadium in Europe, the Allianz Arena - venue for the
World Soccer Championship 2006.
