The department led by director Johannes Henn at the Max Planck Institute for Physics is planning to make appointments at the postdoctoral level in 2024 (start date upon agreement), financed by the ERC Synergy Grant project UNIVERSE+: Positive Geometry in Particle Physics and Cosmology. The principal investigators are Nima Arkani-Hamed (Princeton), Daniel Baumann (Amsterdam), Johannes Henn (Munich), and Bernd Sturmfels (Leipzig). The team aims to create a new mathematical language to describe physical phenomena at all scales, from the interactions of elementary particles to the large-scale structure of the Universe. For more information, see http://www.positive-geometry.com.
While the advertised position(s) is/are at the Max Planck Institute for Physics, the hired researchers will be part of the larger UNIVERSE+ team. We encourage and facilitate regular exchanges between the participating host institutions. Given the cross-disciplinary nature of the research, we are particularly interested in candidates that can facilitate the exchange of information across the boundaries of the different research areas.
The Max Planck Society strives for gender equality and diversity. The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a statement of research interests, and names and e-mail addresses of three referees that will provide letters of reference.
The referees will receive personalized links for uploading the recommendation letters (no registration required). Be sure to provide correct e-mail addresses as bounces may not be detected immediately and will delay the application.
Applicants interested in a postdoc position in the MPP Theory group are kindly asked to also apply at https://apply.mpp.mpg.de/TH-2024.
The application period starts now.
Priority will be given to applications received before December 10, 2023.
