The Max Planck Institute for Physics has a new Head of Administration: Andreas Hartmann succeeds Dr. Elisabeth Träder, who has now retired after many years of service.

Andreas Hartmann is well acquainted with a broad range of administrative issues relating to scientific research thanks to the professional experience he has gained in various research institutions. Before moving to the MPP, he was a science administrator responsible for the administrative coordination and support of a partner branch of the German Cancer Research Center in Munich (DKFZ).

He worked at the interface between administration and research. His responsibilities included the coordination of personnel, finance, and procurement as well as the IT services for the site and administrative further development of the branch. He was also the interface between the DKFZ and the local partner organizations in Munich.

Before that, he was administrative project coordinator of the EU office of the Max Planck institutes in the Bavarian regional cluster. This facility advises and supports scientists in relation to obtaining and administering third-party funding from the EU research framework programme.

Andreas Hartmann graduated from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz with an M.A. in political science, public and civil law.
