The aim of the newly formed ESPP Committee is to develop strategies for particle physics of the future by 2020. The committee’s first task will be to develop the road map for the strategy process in terms of content and schedule. Its proposals will be adopted by the CERN Council, the supreme decision-making authority at CERN, in May 2020.
The CERN Council elected the scientist Halina Abramowicz as the chairman of the current ESPP round. She was nominated as a candidate by the German representative on the CERN Council. “The development and implementation of a European strategy is a significant step to ensure the continued success and efficiency of the field of particle physics in the future,” says Siegfried Bethke, director at the Max Planck Institute for Physics and member of the CERN Council. “We are hoping for vigorous involvement of the European particle physics community in order to take into consideration all innovative and pioneering ideas.”
