New Press Officer at the Max Planck Institute for Physics

The Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich has appointed a new press officer. Barbara Wankerl (49) started her new assignment in media relations and public outreach at the beginning of July. She is committed to reorganizing the research institute’s external communications and relaunching its web presence, with a focus on strengthening the brand.

Barbara Wankerl is an experienced science communicator. From 2007 to 2012 she worked as a PR manager at the Excellence Cluster Universe, a collaboration under the lead of the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

There she initiated the public lecture series Café & Kosmos and was project leader for the exhibition "Evolution of the Universe" at the Deutsches Museum.

For the past three years she served as a media relations officer in TUM’s Corporate Communications Center, with responsibility for Life, Sports and Health Sciences.

Barbara Wankerl started her career in enterprise communications at Dr. Haffa & Partner Public Relations, an agency specializing in IT and technology markets. During her tenure with the company she was promoted to senior account manager.
