The workshop will focus on the physics potential of a very high energy electron-proton and electron-ion collider. Novel effects are expected emerging from the strong interactions of large numbers of gluonic particles at these energies. The program is dedicated to shed light on fundamental issues such as the reason for the confinement of quarks and gluons.
Electron energies 100 times higher than those used in previous such experiments can be envisaged with electrons accelerated by a plasma-based accelerator. The technology for such an accelerator is currently being developed in the framework of the AWAKE experiment.
